Tire Thieves Caught in Act by New Rochelle Police

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Police from New Rochelle, Larchmont and Mamaroneck converged on a car dealership on the New Rochelle - Larchmont border early Tuesday morning and nabbed a group of criminals in the act of stealing tires overnight.

Porsche of Larchmont is considered within the jurisdiction of the Town of Mamaroneck this took the suspects into custody.

Talk of the Sound is awaiting further details on the arrests from the Town of Mamaroneck Police Department.

Bullet Fired Through Window of West End Home in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle responded last night around midnight to a report of “shots fired” and a bullet hole in a rear window of a residence at 331 Union Avenue in New Rochelle.

Police canvassing the area found bullet casings in the rear of 25 8th Street, a residence located around the corner and behind 331 Union Avenue.

No motive or explanation was determined for the shooting.

The were no reported injuries.

FBI Busts 9, Including 2 From New Rochelle in SNAP Benefit Trafficking Scheme

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Marsha Ralph, 38, and Jason Bryce, 42, of New Rochelle, New York were among a group of 9 New York area residents arrested today by the FBI in in connection with a food stamp fraud scheme. The defendants were presented in Manhattan federal court before U.S. Magistrate Debra Freeman.

New Rochelle Youngster Dies After Choking on Noodles

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A young child died last night after reportedly choking in his apartment at 345 Main Street in New Rochelle, NY.

Police and paramedics responded to a call at about 1:30 a.m. last night.

Paramedics attempted to revive the child before rushing him to Montefiore New Rochelle hospital where doctors continued to work on the child for over an hour. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

New York State Schools Chancellor Merryl Tisch to Take Questions at New Rochelle Middle School

Merryl H. Tisch, Chancellor and Member at Large of the New York State Board of Regents will visit the Albert Leonard Middle School in New Rochelle, NY on Thursday. From 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Tisch will answer questions on Common Core and the Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR), two of the most controversial subjects in education in New York State.

Tisch was invited by Albert Leonard building representatives of F.U.S.E. the school district education union to answer questions from teachers.

City of New Rochelle Employee Arrested, Terminated over Theft of $9,500 From Tax Department

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --  Donna Lee, 48, of 41 Cooper Drive in New Rochelle, a twenty-five year employee of the City of New Rochelle, was arrested last night by the New Rochelle Police Department and charged with Grand Larceny - 3rd, a Class D Felony in relation to the theft of $9,500 in cash receipts in the City of New Rochelle Tax Department. Lee was held overnight at New Rochelle Police Headquarters and is scheduled to be arraigned this morning.

GETTING RESULTS: City of New Rochelle Initiates Enforcement Actions Against LaRocca "Parking Lot"

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The City of New Rochelle has initiated enforcement action along East Street, property owned by the City of New Rochelle but largerly converted to private use by Flavio LaRocca, owner of a New Rochelle-based construction company.

On Monday, the New Rochelle Pollice Department posted "Tow Away" notices on the fence of the LaRocca property on East Street and set up police barriers with additional "Tow Away" notices.

United Hebrew Nursing Home Aide Arrested for Dropping Elderly Resident on Floor

PEARL RIVER, NY -- New York State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today announced the arrest of Ekua Hakikson, a Certified Nurse Aide who worked at United Hebrew Geriatric Center in New Rochelle for allegedly dropping an 85-year-old patient from a mechanical lift. On August 29, 2013, Hakikson attempted to move the resident by herself with the use of a mechanical lift. During the transfer, the resident allegedly fell to the floor, suffering injuries to her nose, temple and shoulder.

WEST NYACK, NY -- United Water announced today that the company’s Annual Water Quality Report is available. The report details the quality of drinking water provided to customers during 2014. It shows how the water delivered to customers compares to state and federal regulations for safe drinking water.

The report is required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the New York State Department of Health. The Annual Water Quality Report is an important tool in educating customers about the quality and value of their tap water.
