WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Preet Bharara, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that Westchester businessman Selim “Sam” Zherka pled guilty today to conspiring to make false statements to a bank in order to receive millions of dollars in loans and to file materially false tax returns with the IRS. As part of his plea agreement, Zherka agreed to forfeit $5.23 million. Zherka entered his guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Cathy Seibel.

WHITE PLAINS, NY --Volunteers will be assembling and packing backpacks for Westchester County children at the Sharing Shelf of Family Services of Westchester, Inc.’s(FSW’s) warehouse from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Thursday August27, 47 Purdy Avenue, Port Chester. This year we will be packing and distributing 1,000 backpacks, which is 20 percent more than the previous year. FSW is working closely with the Westchester County Department of Social Services to ensure that the backpacks are distributed to those students most in need.
NEW ROCHELLE, NY --The Iona College women's soccer team completed the opening weekend of its 2015 season Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 setback to Vermont at Mazzella Field.
The game's lone goal came in the fourth minute when Vermont’s Nikki McFarland found the back of the net off a feed from Brooke Jenkins. Jenkins sent a through pass to McFarland who was able to beat the Iona defense. She slotted a low shot to the right corner as Iona goalkeeper Taylor Rice came out to challenge the shot.
NEW ROCHELLE, NY --The Monroe College volleyball team got the 2015 season off to an auspicious start by sweeping a tri-match at Nassau Community College in Garden City, New York, on Saturday. The Mustangs defeated Community College of Rhode Island, 25-12 and 25-18, the beat Onondaga 25-6 and 25-7 and they prevailed over the hosts, 25-7 and 25-12.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe Mustangs women's cross country team appears to have strengthened a team that was last year's Region XV Champion and finished twenty-second at the NJCAA cross country championships.
The team is led by returning sophomore, Jrenda Rivera from Staten Island . The new Mustangs joining her are Nokuthula Dlamini of South Africa, Susan Ejore of Eldoret, Kenya, and Tashay Roberts, out of Bloomfield, Connecticut.
