NEW YORK, NY --  Paws Crossed Animal Rescue Inc. is thrilled to announce that Rebecca Solomon of Channel 12 News - Westchester will participate as emcee of the Doggie Fashion Show at the reopening of the Elmsford Animal Shelter. The “Grand Opening” of Paws Crossed, a new rescue, located at the former site of the Elmsford Animal Shelter will take place September 17, 2016 from 12PM to 3PM.

This show will comprise of adoptable dogs from Paws Crossed who will be strutting their stuff and their finest attire to hopefully find their forever homes.

Columbus Elementary Teacher Gets State Award

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Elizabeth Zahn, the science coordinator for Columbus Elementary School, has been selected to receive the 2016 Anton Banko Award for excellence in elementary school science teaching.

The award is given by the Science Teacher's Association of New York and will be presented at a ceremony in Rochester in the fall. It includes a $1,500 grant for classroom use.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College women's soccer team continued its excellent start to the season with a 10-0 blanking of the previously unbeaten Brookdale Community College, 10-0, in the home opener for the Mustangs on Tuesday. The team is off to a 3-0 record and has outscored its opponents 29-0.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- In its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener, the Iona College women’s soccer team fell to Siena, 4-2. The Gaels had their best offensive showing of the season scoring a season-high two goals netted by junior Charlotte Stuart and senior Emily Hansen.

Siena scored its first goal at the 4:27 mark, taking advantage of a free kick chance in their offensive zone. Junior Michelle Tremblay tapped the score in off an assist from freshman Hanna Longendyke.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College men’s soccer program dropped its fourth straight Saturday afternoon, falling to Hartford at Mazzella Field, 2-0.  Sophomore Kellar Sirstins made four saves in net for the Maroon & Gold.

Junior Marcos Nunez had a team-high six shots and sophomore Daniel Huertas collected five.  The two combined for seven of Iona’s nine shots on goal.

Iona Drops Red Flash Classic Opener To Navy

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College volleyball program fell in straight sets to Navy in the opening match of the Red Flash Classic late Friday afternoon.

The Mids used a 12-3 run to capture the first set, 25-10.   Iona as a team had a match-low -0.120 attack percentage in the opening set.  The Maroon & Gold bounced back and lost competitively lost sets two and three, both by a score of 25-20.  Iona had team-high 17 kills as a team in the second set, finishing attacks at a .351 percentage.

The Iona College men's team took part in the 22nd annual Br. John "Paddy" Doyle / Iona College Meet of Champions early Friday morning at Van Cortlandt Park. 

Key Notes:

The Gaels placed sixth in the 8,000-meter event, finishing with 131 points.
