Monroe Women’s Cross Country Wins Monroe College Tri-Meet Over Essex County

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College Women's Cross Country team hosted its first-ever tri-meet at Van Cortlandt Park on Thursday. The Mustangs defeated Essex County the team competition. ASA didn't have enough runners to compete in the team competition.

Monroe occupied the top three spots in the 5K run, with Susan Ejore posting the fastest time of 18:43.9.  She finished over two minutes ahead of the runner up, teammate Nokuthula Dlamini, who ran to a mark of 20:53.0.  Jemima Backman earned the final podium spot with a clocking of 21:35.8.

Iona Volleyball Drops Four-Set Match To Quinnipiac

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College volleyball team fell short of a comeback Friday evening, coming up short against the Quinnipiac Bobcats in four sets (19-25, 25-20, 15-25, 21-25).  Sophomore Mia Bonsignore and senior Karly White had double-digit kills in the loss.

Iona had a side out percentage of just 56% in the first set compared to 73% for Quinnipiac.  Sophomores Claire Archibald and Jessica Paolucci each had five digs and freshman Tess Connolly had a set-high four kills.

Monroe College Men’s Soccer Finishes Regular Season with Perfect 13-0 Mark

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College Men's Soccer team closed out the regular season with a 4-0 victory at Nassau Community College on Wednesday. The team boasts a perfect 13-0 record on the season and is currently ranked #2 in the nation by the NJCAA.

Monroe opened the scoring in the seventh minute, when Ben Mardones found Felipe Hideki, who finished with his left foot. Almost half an hour later, Hideki brought the score to 2-0 when he scored off a pass from Gabriel Machado. Monroe led 2-0 at the half.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Maroon & Gold earned a hard-fought 2-1 win in their home-finale Saturday afternoon.  The visiting Niagara Purple Eagles out shot the Gaels 13-12, and had an edge in shots on goal at 9-4, but a pair of strikes from freshman Amber Crispin and junior Marissa Dundas proved to be just enough.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Despite Mother Nature's dose of cold rain and heavy wind and a determined upset bid by Berkeley College, the College of New Rochelle Mens Soccer team erupted for five second half goals to defeat the Knights 6-0 in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Semi-finals Saturday night.

The win moves CNR to the championship game tomorrow at 3:00pm against the 3rd seeded SUNY-ESF.  SUNY-ESF defeated Albany Pharmacy College 5-3 in the other semi-final.

Fairfield Tops Iona Volleyball In Straight Sets

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College volleyball team lost to the MAAC’s top ranked Fairfield Stags in three sets (18-25, 20-25, 24-26) on Saturday afternoon. Senior Karly White and sophomore Claire Archibald led the offense with eight kills apiece in the loss.

Overall, the Gaels registered a .164 hitting percentage, compared to a .233 hitting percentage for the Stags.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Before a capacity crowd, in the newly renovated Hynes Athletics Center Pool, the Iona College Men’s and Women’s Swim team opened up their home season with a pair of wins and pair of losses.

St. Francis College, Sacred Heart University and Wagner College visited New Rochelle for the Annual Iona Invitational. Wagner – a women’s only team - came away the big winner with a 196-39 win over SFC, a 166-74 win over SHU, and a 188-49 decision over Iona.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College golf program dropped a few spots in the standings on the final day of the Lehigh University Invitational.  The Gaels ended the event in tenth place of 12 teams, finishing with a 621 (+45) score.  Senior Brian Fitzpatrick was the Maroon & Gold’s top performer, placing in a tie for tenth, stroking a 152 (+8).

Women’s Soccer Notches Fourth-Straight Shutout with 4-0 Win at CCBC Essex

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College Women's Soccer team notched its fourth-straight shutout on Thursday by defeating CCBC Essex, 4-0. The Mustangs have outscored their opponents 18-0 during this shutout streak.

Elysa Virella continued her recent hot streak in Thursday's game, during which she scored twice. The defender has scored four goals in her last two contests.
