College of New Rochelle President Ousted Over Financial Irregularities

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Judith Huntington is out as President of the College of New Rochelle, the board announced today, due to "significant unmet financial obligations that had accrued over a period of time". 

The board learned of the problems in September and initiated a forensic accounting examination which is ongoing.

At a faculty meeting earlier today, school officials said the tenured staff are no longer secure in their jobs and the school will likely have to merge with another school. All options are said to be on the table. The situation was described as dire.

Former Albert Leonard MS Teacher Busted for Aggravated DWI, Child in Car

SCARSDALE, NY -- Scarsdale10583 is reporting that Kristen Walsh, 36, of White Plains, NY was arrested by Scarsdale Police on September 25, 2016 and charged with “driving while on cell phone, aggravated DWI with a child in the car, DWI per se, with a prior conviction less than 10 years and DWI with a prior conviction less that ten 10 years.” Walsh was released to her attorney on $500 cash bail.

American Historical Association has honored Neal Shultz with the 2016 Nancy Lyman Roelker Mentorship Award

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The American Historical Association has honored Neal Shultz with the 2016 Nancy Lyman Roelker Mentorship Award which recognizes professional and scholarly distinction. Shultz teaches at the Campus Alternative High School and has worked in the district for 29 years. The award is given to teachers of history who taught, guided and inspired their students in a way that changed their lives.

New Rochelle High School's Writing and Filmmaking program designated a 2016-2017 New York State English Program of Excellence

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle High School's Writing and Filmmaking program taught by Anthony Stirpe has been designated a 2016-2017 New York State English Program of Excellence.

In Stirpe's class, students use the works of classic and modern authors, and creative writing and filmmaking, to analyze these writings in new ways. Students use iPhones, iPads and iPods to create films around the poems, thereby democratizing the filmmaking process and learning in unique ways.

Breast Cancer Awareness at New Rochelle City Hall

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- In honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, each year a number of City empolyees team up for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Westchester Walk. The City Hall team hosted their annual pink bake sale on Friday October 14th with proceeds going towards the organization. To date the team has fundraised $2,700.

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Westchester Walk will be held on Sunday Morning, Oct. 16 at Manhattanville College.

The College of New Rochelle Awarded $2.7 Million Federal Grant to Provide Advanced Education to Teachers of English Language Learners

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle (CNR) has been awarded a $2.7 million National Professional Development grant from the U.S. Department of Education  to fund a program to address the critical need for advanced education for teachers of English language learners (ELL) through graduate-level teacher certificate programs. The program, Rigor for the Education of Successful ELLs through their Teachers (RESET), is scheduled to open to students for the spring 2017 semester. CNR is the only private college in New York State to receive federal funding for their program.
