NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- James M. Kelleher, 82, of New Rochelle, NY, passed away June 27, 2016, Reading, PA. He was the husband of Antonia (Morales) Kelleher. Born in Queens, NY. Mr. Kelleher served in the National Guard and the New York City Fire Department. Surviving in addition to his wife Antonia are his children James M. Kelleher, Long Branch, NJ; Dr. Mary E. Kelleher, of Sinking Spring, PA; six grandchildren and his sister Mary E. McHugh of Spring Lake, NJ. His family would also like to thank Dr. Noel Edelson and wife Leah for their love and friendship to Jim.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Joyce Ann Perone, of New Rochelle, passed away July 17, 2016, at age 70. She was born November 30, 1945 to Charles & Antoinette Perone. Joyce worked as an Administrative Assistant for State Farm Insurance in New Rochelle. She was a member of the Columbiettes and also the Hugh A. Doyle Senior Center in New Rochelle. Joyce loved to cook and bake for family events, she had a beautiful singing voice and was a great dancer. she enjoyed her time with her cousins, caring for and spoiling them all.

North Texas Takes Down Iona, 66-55

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College women’s basketball team dropped its third straight Saturday afternoon, falling to North Texas, 66-55.  The Gaels hit Just 1-for-15 from beyond the arc while the Mean Green converted on 40% of their outside shots and 47.9% from the floor overall.

North Texas started the game hitting its first six shots, opening up a 15-8 lead come the first media time out.  Senior Karynda DuPree picked up an early second foul in the first quarter, leading to an eventual 12-2 run in favor of the Mean Green.

WHITE PLAINS, NY --  AJC Westchester/Fairfield announced that it will be holding a moot court debate between noted First Amendment attorney Floyd Abrams and AJC General Counsel Marc Stern.  They will debate the merits of a case involving undocumented aliens on a college campus.  In this divisive period following the election, this is truly an issue for our time.  The debate will take place at this year’s Judge Learned Hand Award dinner.  The award is the organization’s most prestigious recognition of excellence bestowed upon members of the legal profession.

Iona College Board Awards Sabbatical to School President

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College Board of Trustees has awarded a sabbatical to President Joseph E. Nyre. The sabbatical will run from May 2017 until January 1, 2018.

In an announcement to the Iona College campus community on Tuesday, Board of Trustees Chairman James P. Hynes stated that Nyre accepted a sabbatical for the Fall semester.
