NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Despite seeing a 21-point lead dwindle to just one in the final seconds, Iona was able to survive against Saint Joseph’s and earn a hard fought 58-57 victory.  Senior Marina Lizarazu had a game-high 21 points, including a pair of clutch moments in the fourth quarter to lift the Gaels to a 2-0 start in the 2016-17 season.

Varsity Football to take on Holy Trinity in CHSFL AA Championship Game

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The gridiron Gaels will face Holy Trinity at Mitchel Field Athletic Complex on Saturday, November 19, at 1:30 PM.

The Varsity Football team, under first year head coach Joe Spagnolo, is headed to the CHSFL Championship game. The team opened the season with two very competitive non-league games against Brunswick and Stepinac. After two tough losses, the team proceeded to finish the regular season with a 5-3 record, and a 5-1 AA league record.

Three Mustangs in Double-Figures as Women’s Basketball Suffers First Loss of Season

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Despite a fierce second-half effort, the Monroe College Women's Basketball team suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday, falling to Union County College, 81-73. Three Mustangs players scored double figures.

Monroe held the lead several times throughout the first quarter, but ultimately entered the second trailing 19-16.  The Mustangs even led by as much as three points (11-8) on a steal and basket from Camilla Kilinc at the 5:25 mark.

MWP Falls to SFC 13-2 In CWPA Playoffs

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- With the offense managing only two goals, the fifth-place Iona men’s water polo team fell 13-2 to fourth-place St. Francis College (Brooklyn) in tonight’s opening match of the North East Water Polo Conference Championships hosted by Princeton University.

Junior Zach Roper and freshman Lloyd Quinn scored one goal each for the fifth-place Gaels (9-21).  Sophomores Bailey Lyons and Jason Hill had one assist apiece.   The offense made 16 turnovers.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona men’s water polo team celebrated its final game of the 2016 campaign with a 9-8 sudden-death overtime win over Massachusetts Institute of Technology Saturday night’s fifth-place match of the North East Water Polo Conference Championship hosted by Princeton University.

Junior Marc Stauble led the Gaels (10-20) with four goals, while junior Zach Roper and freshman Quinn Lloyd scored twice, and junior Patrick Judge had one goal. There were four Gaels assists on nine goals.

Iona MXC Finishes 10th at 2016 NCAA Championship

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College men's cross country team finished 10th overall at the 2016 NCAA Division Championship held at LaVern Gibson XC Course. It was the Gaels 14th Top 10 finish at the national championship in the last 15 years. All five scorers finished within 32 seconds of each other, the smallest spread among the first 20 teams in the standings.

17 Families Evacuated in Early Morning Apartment Fire in New Rochelle, 3 Injured

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Three people, including one police officer, were taken to Montefiore Hospital New Rochelle with smoke inhalation, and 17 families were evacuated, as the result of an early morning fire at 11 Locust Avenue near Main Street in downtown New Rochelle.

New Rochelle firefighters were called to the scene shortly before 4:30 a.m., according to NRFD Deputy Chief John Reed.
