NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Constance "Connie" Renda a long time New Rochelle resident died on August 4 2016 at the age of 69. Connie Was born on October 14 1946 in Palermo Sicily to the Late Sebastian and Rose (Verga) Renda. She is survived by her loving son Joseph Renda his wife Sandra Almeida-Renda her 2 grandchildren Gabriella and Lucas Renda. Her brothers Rosario,John and Paul Renda. Her Sisters Antoinette Virga, Marie Clavin and Roseanne Renda and her Many Nieces and Nephews all of whom she loved very much. She was predeceased by her brothers Salvatore and Tommaso Renda.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle High School Principal Reggie Richardson is at the White House today to attend the national summit of My Brother’s Keeper, an initiative started by President Barack Obama in February 2014 to ensure all boys and young men of color have an equal opportunity to achieve their full potential.

Richardson is accompanied by New Rochelle Councilman Jared Rice. Both are co-chairs of My Brother’s Keeper New Rochelle.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Food Bank for Westchester, the leading organization providing programs for the 200,000 county residents who are food insecure, announced today the appointment of Leslie B. Gordon as its new President and CEO effective January 17, 2017.

Gordon, who has extensive experience at City Harvest developing initiatives to serve the hungry in New York City, succeeds Ellen Lynch who announced in September that she was stepping down as President and CEO.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona Preparatory Fine Arts Department will celebrate its annual Winter Arts Night on Tuesday, Dec. 20, with performances by the Jazz and Rock Ensembles, Prep Players and Forensics team, in addition to a showcase of student art. Don't miss a special alumni performance! Admission is free and open to the public.

The Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Mr. John Raimondo Jr., will be performing Cee-Lo Green's "Forget You" and "September," by Earth, Wind and Fire. It will then team up with the Rock Ensemble for "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas."

Friends’ Book Sale at Library

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library will hold a special “A Buck-a-Bag” Book Sale on Friday, January 6 and Saturday, January 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Library’s lobby.  To prepare for the opening of their new bookstore, the sale will provide unprecedented opportunities for customers to purchase great numbers of books at rock-bottom prices, as the be charge will be only one dollar for each bag filled with books. The Friends will provide the generously-sized bags.
