01/07 Library’s “Cook by the Cookbook” Club Continues in New Year 12 PM

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Public Library’s cookbook club that explores the library’s excellent collection of cookbooks and online food-related resources will continue its monthly sessions on Saturday, January 7th at 12:00 noon, in the library’s Meeting Room. For this new year’s session, the theme is “healthy dishes.” Participants will be sharing samples from a recipe they are trying for the first time, and that contains healthful ingredients.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Public Library will host the poignant exhibit of photographs by Seth Harrison, “L’dor Vador/From Generation to Generation,” from January 8th through January 28th, in the library’s Lumen Winter Gallery. The exhibition features 11 large-scale color digital photographs of Holocaust survivors and their descendants and an accompanying 12-and-a-half-minute video.

Legislators Pass Bipartisan, Zero-Tax-Increase 2017 Budget

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Today, the Westchester County Board of Legislators (BOL) passed the $1.8 Billion 2017 Operating Budget by a vote of 10-7.  The 2017 budget is the 7th consecutive county budget that carries no tax increase.

The budget was supported by all 10 members of the bipartisan coalition of 8 Republicans and 2 Democrats.

In addition to not raising taxes, the 2017 budget contains no reductions to the county work force, in fact the budget adds 6 positions to County Police and 4 engineering positions to the Department of Public Works.

Visiting Author Urges Students to Discover Their Own Stories

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- On November 14, 2016, our Visiting Author Series continued with the excellent presentation by Camron Wright, author of "The Rent Collector." All of our high school students and faculty read the book this past summer. We were intrigued to learn how Mr. Wright was inspired to write the book after seeing a documentary film, "River of Victory" produced by his son about people living at the Stung Meanchey municipal dump in Cambodia.

Samson Jr. Named the CHSFL 'AA' Defensive Player of the Year

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Senior Rodney Samson Jr. had a tremendous season as a running back, but his play at outside linebacker won him the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year Award for the Catholic High School Football League.

Samson Jr. played a major factor this season in helping the Gaels win the CHSFL "AA" Championship over Holy Trinity. The senior was a force at his outside linebacker position and led a defense that pitched three consecutive shutout wins against St. Francis Prep, Fordham Prep and Xavier.

Three Mustangs Score More than 20 Points Each in Win Against Orange County College, 92-46

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College Women's basketball team improved to 8-4 for the season with a 92-46 victory over Orange County College on Thursday. Three Mustangs each scored more than 20 points: Shania Johnson (25), Jada Banks (21), and Camilla Kilinc (20). Cristina Soriano added 10 points.

Johnson shot 9-of-13 from the field. Kilinc made 6-of-7 three-points, while Aneisha Lyons grabbed a game-best seven steals.

Women’s Basketball Earns 83-53 Win over Erie CC

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Monroe College sophomores Shania Johnson and Camilla Kilinc combined to score 56 points in the Women's Basketball team's 83-53 victory over Erie Community College on Sunday. Johnson earned 34 points with 8-11 shooting from behind the three-point line. Kilinc totaled 22 points with 8-16 shooting.

College of New Rochelle Athletics - 'Dull Steels': CNR Rolls Past Culinary 101-32

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle Men's Basketball team improved to 5-4 on the season and 2-0 in league play with a dominating 101-32 drubbing of the Culinary Institute of America, in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Sunday.  The Steels fall to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in league play. The win sets up a key HVIAC match against top-ranked Berkeley College at CNR on Wednesday night.
