NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Matthew E. Murphy a lifelong resident of New Rochelle died on September 2, 2016. He was 84.

Matthew was born on August 14, 1932 in New Rochelle to the late Matthew and Jane (Comerford) Murphy.

He worked as a salesman for many years At Foley's Hardware and then at Rawl Plug and at Brewers in Mamaroneck. He served in the Army during the Korean War.

He was predeceased by his wife the former Dorothy McHugh whom he married on November 28, 1959.She died on February 17, 1999.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Joseph McDonald, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, died on August 30, 2016. He was 80.

Joseph was born on March 23, 1936, in New Rochelle to the late Joseph A. and Filomena "Dolly" (LaPera) McDonald.

He worked at Ruben H. Donnelly for many years and recently was a devoted care giver to his mother until her death.

He is survived by his sister-in-law Cynthia McDonald; his nieces Lauren Carway and Lynn Ferone; his cousins: Joan Itzla, Chris Camillone, Ronald LaPera and Diane LaPera.

He was predeceased by his brother Eugene.

NEW YORK, NY -- Prices in the New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island area, as measured by the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U), inched up 0.1 percent in December.  This reflected a 2.7-percent increase in energy prices, which was partially offset by a 3.6-percent decline in apparel prices, often down in December.

Natural gas prices rose 4.6 percent over the month.  Prices also increased for electricity (2.1 percent), gasoline (1.8 percent), and fuel oil.

Moody’s Upgrades New Rochelle Bond Rating to Aa2, Highest Rating in Over Eight Decades

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Moody’s Investors Services has upgraded the City of New Rochelle’ bond rating from Aa3 to Aa2, the City announced today. With funding of New Rochelle’s robust 10-year capital improvement plan on the horizon, the City will benefit from lower interest costs at substantial savings to taxpayers.

According to Moody’s, the upgraded rating reflects the City’s maintenance of a stable tax base, healthy fund balance, and moderate pension costs and debt burden.
