Miriam Soury Obituary

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Miriam Soury, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, September 1, 2016. She was 78 years old. Miriam was born in New York to the late Lena and Henry J. Perahia. At 17, she met the love of her life, Joseph Soury and together they built and shared a wonderful life together for 60 years. After raising her three children, Miriam worked as a Personnel executive for Westchester County. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, and most of all spending time with her family.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College Women's Water Polo team opened up Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with a 13-8 defeat to the defending conference champion Wagner Seahawks Saturday night.

Junior Hannah Schultz led the Gaels with three goals. Senior Rebecca Koshy and junior Megan Hofer tallied a pair. In net, junior Britten Vilander made nine saves and collected four steals.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College softball program dominated day two of the Seton Hall Pirates Invite with a pair of wins over Brown and Hartford.  Junior Jessica Harkness and sophomore Alana Evans were both effective in the circle while the heart of the Maroon & Gold batting order crushed the competition.

GAME ONE: Iona 4, Brown 3

Harkness threw a complete game, two earned run, five hit outing to help Iona end its seven game losing streak.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A three-run eighth inning on top of solid pitching helped lead the Iona College baseball team to a 3-1 victory against Towson this afternoon, part of a three-game trip to Virginia.

After seven and half scoreless innings, the Gaels (5-7) broke through in the bottom of the eighth inning with three runs on two hits and an error. Joseph Lovecchio opened the inning with a walk and advanced to third two batters later on a Sean Breen single. The catcher scored the opening run as Niko Switalla reached on a fielder’s choice, picking up the RBI.

Ninth Inning Rally Cut Short for Iona Baseball Against #9 St. John's

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A ninth inning rally came one run short for the Iona College baseball team this afternoon as the Gaels fell to the ninth ranked Red Storm of St. Johns 4-3 to kick off a three-game weekend at Virginia Wesleyan.

The Gaels jumped ahead in the fourth inning as Sean Scales drove in Niko Switalla with the games’ opening run on a single. However, the Red Storm responded in the next half inning with a RBI single from Jesse Berardi before taking the lead during the next at-bat as John Valente scored on a ground out from Anthony Brocato.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College softball program lost the first game of the Seton Hall University Pirate Invite on Friday afternoon to the host Pirates, 5-3.

Senior leftfielder Ashlyn Morris, senior first basemen Kristen Turner, junior catcher Tori Danner and sophomore Alana Evans each had two hits in the defeat.

Seton Hall got off to a fast start with three runs in the top of the first from senior first basemen Lauren Fisher who knocked out a three-run homerun.

No. 14 Iona Topped by No. 3 Oregon in NCAA Midwest Region First Round, 93-77

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The No. 14 seed Iona College men’s basketball team cut a 27-point second half deficit down to 13 points in the final stages of regulation, however, No. 3 Oregon was able to earn a 93-77 victory earlier this afternoon at the Golden 1 Center in the First Round of the Midwest Region of the NCAA Tournament.
