Webster Students Enjoy Literacy Pajama Party

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Tuesday evening, Webster School held a Literacy Pajama Party for students in Kindergarten through second grade. The children had time to shop at Webster School's Scholastic Book Fair before enjoying literacy activities with their family members. 

Students authored their own books, played a "Popcorn Word" game, read and talked about book characters, and made puppets of their favorite book characters. The event was organized by reading teachers Peggy Parker and Jenn Meyer.

Hip Hop Dance Residency Motivates Jefferson Students

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Third, fourth and fifth graders at Jefferson Elementary recently completed an exciting hip hop residency that aimed to get students moving and to think of their bodies as instruments of art.

As many as 300 children in 16 classes participated in the residency led by Jamal Josef of the New Beginnings Performing Arts Studio in New Rochelle. Josef was invited at the suggestion of physical education teachers Billy Murphy and Eddie Ortiz.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Stuart and Adina Gross came to the City School District of New Rochelle's 13th Transition Fair on Monday with their son, Daniel, to begin looking for answers. Daniel's parents are developing a plan for him for after graduation in 2018. Daniel has autism spectrum disorder and dyslexia, among other things, and struggles with executive skills.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Dominic Procopio of New Rochelle, a senior at Archbishop Stepinac High School, is one of an elite group of 72 teenage soccer players of the Super Y League who was selected to participate in the prestigious USL Experience.  It will be hosted by San Antonio FC, March 30-April 2 in San Antonio, Texas.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- With seven players finding the back of the net, the Iona women’s water polo team notched its second Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win of the week with a 17-4 win Saturday morning over LaSalle University at Marist College.

Junior Hannah Schultz led Iona (5-7, 2-1 MAAC) with six goals, while junior Megan Hofer and freshman Regan Warmoth scored three each. Junior Kayla Allen hit two goals, and senior Darby Nevins, junior Devika Joshi and sophomore Alyssa Gayapa added one each.

Monroe Softball Opens Season 5-3 on South Carolina Road Trip

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College Softball team posted a 5-3 mark in their recent season-opening eight-game road trip in South Carolina. They picked up victories over Macomb Community College, Joliet Junior College, Henry Ford College, and Frederick Community College. They lost games to Joliet, Danville Area Community College, and Kaskaskia College.
