New Rochelle High School Administrator May Return Next Week After Unexplained Month-Long Absence

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- David Diamond, Assistant Director of Special Education at New Rochelle High School, will return to work next week after an unexplained month-long absence. This according to an email sent yesterday to special education staff at the high school.

Joseph Starvaggi, NRHS Assistant Principal, responded to weeks of speculation as to the sudden disappearance of Diamond, saying:

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona Women’s Lacrosse program lost a hard-fought double-overtime contest to the Manhattan Jaspers Wednesday night. The host scored the game-winner 41 seconds into the second period to down the Gaels.

Sophomore Libby Miller, junior Pamela Giordano and senior Erin Pugh led the Maroon & Gold with two  goals each. Sophomore Maureen Murphy, junior Kaitlyn Becker and senior Grace Celona each tallied one goal in the contest. In net, sophomore Shannon McCaffrey played the entirety, collected 12 saves.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Marc Jerome, new President of Monroe College, will be guest at the next gathering of Coffee and Conversation, Friday, April 21, at 9:30 a.m. in the Meeting Room of the New Rochelle Public Library, 1 Library Plaza, sponsored by the New Rochelle League of Women Voters.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Finishing up the regular season at home today, the Iona College women’s water polo team split two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matches with a 18-5 morning win over LaSalle University and a 10-9 afternoon loss to Virginia Military Institute at Hynes Pool.

After taking a first-quarter lead with three goals, the Gaels never trailed in their 18-5 win over LaSalle this morning.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Sophomore Alana Evans continued her dominance in the circle for the Maroon & Gold with the program’s first no-hitter since 2010.  Her ten strikeout complete game gem, insured the Gaels split a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader against Monmouth.

GAME ONE: Monmouth 5, Iona 0

Junior Amanda Riley was on her A-game for Monmouth, showing her All-MAAC Preseason selection traits while holding Iona to four hits in seven innings of work.  Seven Gaels fell by way of the strikeout while just two reaching base on free passes.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A solid pitching effort coupled with timely hitting led the Iona baseball program to a 2-1 victory this afternoon to close out a weekend series with MAAC rival Quinnipiac. The Gaels (12-13, 5-4 MAAC) claimed the series victory two games to one.

NEW YORK, NY -- Major League Baseball Commissioner (MLB) Rob Manfred will be honored at this year’s annual Wish Ball—An Evening of Wishes, where supporters of Make-A-Wish® Hudson Valley are looking to help grant the pending wishes for more than 150 local children with life-threatening medical conditions.

The gala, which is the chapter’s biggest fundraiser each year, will get underway at 6 PM, Friday, May 12, at the historic Abigail Kirsch at Tappan Hill Mansion, former estate of Mark Twain, in Tarrytown, New York.

Softball Goes 0-3 Over the Weekend, Fourth Game Suspended with Mustangs Ahead

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College Softball team faced tough competition over the weekend, falling to Mercer County College and Brookdale Community College in doubleheaders. They were ahead in their second game against the latter, 7-6, when the umpire suspended the game.

Mercer County proved a strong competitor as they beat the Mustangs 12-0 in their first game and 4-1 in the second. Kylie Bitz struck out six in game two. She allowed just three earned runs. Gabrielle Placencia hit a solo homerun to account for the Mustangs only run in the doubleheader.

Monroe Baseball Drops Doubleheader to ASA

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College Baseball team fell to ASA College in a doubleheader held over the weekend by scores of 7-4 and 6-5. The team is now 12-15 for the year.

Game one saw Antonio Frias get the start for Monroe. The Panamanian freshman entered the game looking to improve to 2-3 on the year. The southpaw pitched just over three innings, striking out six and surrendering just one earned run.
