NEW YORK, NY -- The Indian Point Closure Task Force met for the first-time last night and publicly discussed and identified initiatives to help the local community prepare for the facility to cease power generation operations and shut down by 2021, as a result of an agreement reached earlier this year.

Board of Education Approves $13.6 Million for Building Improvements

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Board of Education last week approved contracts worth $13,585,151, moving forward with the district's ambitious four-phase, four-year plan to restore aging school buildings.

The board awarded 10 contracts that call for installing new asphalt and concrete, upgrading plumbing and electrical wiring, and adding new oil tanks and site work at several schools. It also includes masonry reconstruction at Isaac E. Young Middle School and Jefferson Elementary School.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Council of Community Services (NRCCS) honored three outstanding community leaders and organizations at their annual luncheon on Friday June 9th, at the Davenport Manision in New Rochelle. 

The 2017 honorees were: The Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library, Colleen Gardephe, and Det. Chris Greco.   The Friends of NRPL and the two individuals exemplify service to the New Rochelle community.   Amy Tietz, co-president of the Friends of NRPL accepted the award on behalf of the Friends.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- The YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester held its 9th annual In the Company Women luncheon on Friday, May 12 at the Doubletree in Tarrytown.  This year’s honorees were Millie Hernandez-Becker, president and CEO of Skyqueen Enterprises; YWCA Board member, Patricia Mulqueen; Dr. Jin Li, neurologist with Westchester Medical Center. Keynote speaker for the occasion was Lauren Leader- Chivèe, co-founder and CEO of All in Together, a nonprofit campaign dedicated to engaging American women in politics and civic action.

PELHAM, NY -- Pelham Art Center is pleased to present its highly popular Faculty and Student Showcase on view July 14 – August 19, 2017. A free opening reception will be held on Friday, July 15 from 6:30-8PM.  This annual exhibition features new work in a variety of mediums by the Art Center’s distinguished artist-instructors and enthusiastic students. Exhibited work ranges from charcoal to oils, photographs to collage, and mixed media to ceramics.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Dozens of New Rochelle High School seniors were recognized in the Student Award Assembly on Friday morning. Hundreds of friends and family members were on hand to applaud when the honorees received awards for academics, athletics, artistic achievements and service. Gifts, many donated by local businesses and organizations, included plaques, certificates, books and scholarships.

And it’s not over. The celebrating continues with the Senior Awards Ceremony in the high school at 7 p.m. Monday (June 12).

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Best wishes to 44 teachers, administrators and other staff members in the district who are retiring this year, among them Associate Superintendent of Schools Dr. Diane Massimo. Together, the employees' service adds up to 1,038 years. The longest serving among them is Albert Leonard Middle School teacher Jo Ann Di Iorio, who has worked in the district an impressive 46 years!

City of New Rochelle Employee “Unexpectedly Resigned” for Pocketing Twenty Dollars

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- An entry-level employee in the City of New Rochelle Finance Department was allowed to resign rather than face termination after she admitted to taking $20 from a cash drawer in City Hall. She said he intended to replace the money after she got paid.

The incident occurred about a month ago but only came to the attention of senior city officials until last week.

The employee had worked for the City on a part-time basis over the past year and had been replaced promoted to a full-time position.

The City did not file charges.

New Rochelle Student Caught Impersonating a Police Officer Near High School

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A recently suspended New Rochelle High School student spent part of his morning Tuesday directing traffic and crossing students at the intersection of Eastchester Road and White Oak Street. An hour later he was gone but not before 10 people including high school security, the NRPD and the MTA Police had arrived.

He was wearing a home made police uninform with a NRPD Patch on the left arm.
