NEW YORK, NY --Assemblywoman Amy Paulin (D-88) announced on Wednesday that the New York State Education Department and the New York State Library System have approved 216 construction awards to public libraries and public library systems, including three libraries in the 88th Assembly District.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Following the hiring of a Level 3 Predicate Sex Offender for an hourly worker position in its Department of Public Works, the City of New Rochelle is looking into how that hiring came about and whether to change current hiring practices to include criminal background checks.

Currently, some positions but not all require criminal background checks.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Joon H. Kim, the Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York,James P. O’Neill, the Commissioner of the New York City Police Department (“NYPD”), and Patrick Carroll, the Commissioner of the New Rochelle Police Department (“NRPD”),announced the arrest of and unsealing of an indictment against FRANKIE BEQIRAJ charging him with conspiracy to distribute heroin, cocaine, oxycodone, and alprazolam.  The indictment alleges that heroindistributed by BEQIRAJ and his co-conspirators resulted in the deaths of Robert Vivolo and Leonides Madrid.

Library Invites Adults to Join in Summer Reading Game Fun

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Why should the kids have all the fun? Each year the New Rochelle Public Library’s Summer Reading Game for children inspires hundreds of children to enjoy reading books all summer along. This year, the library is offering adults the opportunity to also gain new perspectives while soaking up new titles, by playing a grown-up version of the Summer Reading Game.  Adults and young adults ages 16 and older are invited to pick up or download a Summer Reading Bingo Card, and spend their summer reading great books for great prizes.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Public Library’s Summer Reading Kick-off Party, designed to raise the level of children’s enthusiasm for a summer of reading pleasure, will be held on Saturday, June 24th, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. “Build a Better World” is the theme for the 2017 Summer Reading Game, and  the library has cooked-up a terrific array of 6-week programs to help children stay energized with related activities.

Board of Education Approves Contracts for Five Playgrounds

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Students from five New Rochelle elementary schools will have new playgrounds to enjoy in the 2017-2018 school year.

The Board of Education has approved $2,582,600 in contracts to install new playgrounds at Barnard, Webster, Trinity, Columbus and Jefferson elementary schools. The upgrades include new playground equipment, improved grounds and concrete, and asphalt replacement.

The renovations are expected to be completed in the fall. The school board has also approved $226,000 for a cooler and freezer replacement at New Rochelle High School.

Otis and Latimer Announce State Construction Grant Awards to New Rochelle and Rye Libraries

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Senator George Latimer (D-37 SD) and Assemblyman Steve Otis (D-91 AD) are pleased to announce important state construction grant awards for the New Rochelle and Rye City library systems.   The grants are part of a $19 million capital fund appropriation for public library construction in the 2016 state budget.
