Potential Bus Strike Averted

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A potential strike of First Mile Square bus drivers on Monday has been averted. This afternoon, the company notified the school district that an agreement has been reached in their collective bargaining talks. First Mile Square, a private student transportation company, provides transportation services for a number of school districts in Westchester County, including the City School District of New Rochelle. The buses will now operate Monday on a regular schedule.

Theme Announced for Black History Month Exhibit

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- In partnership with the Westchester Alliance of Black School Educators (WABSE) and the New Rochelle Black History Month Committee (NRBHMC), the City School District of New Rochelle is hosting the sixth annual district-wide Black History Spoken Word and Art Exhibit on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at New Rochelle High School,'s Whitney M. Young Auditorium and Rotunda. The exhibit, along with student performances, is part of a day-long celebration and will commemorate the life, work and legacy of Harriet Tubman by celebrating themes of freedom, perseverance and tenacity.

NRHS Theatre Works Rehearsing Classic Comedy Harvey

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The student thespians at New Rochelle High School are rehearsing scenes while the sets are being built for the upcoming Theatre Works production of Harvey, the comedy about Elwood P. Dowd and the large, furry friend that only he can see.

The classic play that centers around a six-foot-tall invisible white rabbit was written in 1944 by Mary Chase. But the theater students in rehearsal this week still saw relevance in its playful take on what's real, what's imaginary and, ultimately, what's most important.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino announced today that the county jail has received national recognition for its Community Oriented Re-Entry (CORE) program, which provides mental health services to inmates. Selected from more 500 jails, prisons and other correctional facilities nationwide, Westchester’s efforts won “Program of the Year” honors from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care, a top accreditation group.  The award will be presented on November 6, in Chicago.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- On October 30th, Firefighters from Station 3 at 756 North Avenue miraculously resuscitated an unresponsive toddler brought directly to the station by his frantic parents just after 7PM. On Wednesday, grateful couple Amanda Capraro and Matthew Pino brought Angelo (16 mos) and his brother Matthew Jr. back to the firehouse to express their gratitude to the members of Squad 1 (Engine 23 and Ladder 13): Lt Tom Moriarity, Lt Joe Sinatra, and Firefighters Peter Cordaro, Vincent Costa, Billy Colangelo, Frank Gagliardo, and Ryan Pascuzzi.
