Annual Retail Business Registration Required by Jan. 31, 2018

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The City of New Rochelle’s Retail Business Registration Program requires all retail businesses to register with the City and renew their registration annually. The deadline for registration is January 31, 2018. All non-retail businesses in New Rochelle are also encouraged to register. Businesses can renew/ register online in English or Spanish at www.newrochelleny.com/business using a valid e-mail.

Alternate Side Parking Restrictions Suspended for Winter Months

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Parking regulations are suspended due to street sweeping operations during the winter months from January 1 to March 31, 2018. A complete listing of streets is located in the City Code Article X Schedule 312-84.

Reminder: Parking regulations exist throughout the City for other reasons than just street sweeping. Please carefully review the posted parking restrictions against the list as non-street sweeping related parking regulations will be enforced.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- With below-freezing temperatures forecasted through Tuesday, the Westchester County Department of Health reminds residents to take precautions against hypothermia and frostbite and to take care when heating their homes using alternate heating sources.

Check in on neighbors. Seniors and infants less than one year of age should never sleep in a cold room and should be dressed in warm clothing to prevent the loss of body heat. If a safe temperature cannot be maintained inside your home, make temporary arrangements to stay elsewhere.

Some New Rochelle Lakes & Ponds Open for Skating

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The recent Arctic blast has one upside: some of New Rochelle’s skating lakes and ponds have been inspected and are now open for skating effective today, January 2. Park staff have posted white signs with red lettering indicating skating is now permitted at these locations:  Paine Lake, the South Lake of Huguenot Park/Twin Lakes at New Rochelle High School, and Carpenter’s Pond.

Currently, eight (8) outdoor tennis courts and four (4) outdoor lighted platform/paddle courts are located and operating at the Pinebrook Tennis Center.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College men's basketball team closed out its trip to Florida on Thursday, falling to Palm Beach State College by a score of 75-67 at Eastern Florida State College's Titan Field House. The Mustangs finish the trip with a 10-7 overall record, while Palm Beach State improves to 11-7 with its win.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Siena defended home court with a 64-51 win late Tuesday morning against Iona. Due in large part to their 13 steals, the Saints scored 25 points off turnovers and shot an effective 41.2% from the floor.

Iona began the game on a quick 7-0 spurt, spurned by the play of freshmen Toyosi Abiola and Adrienne DiGioia.  Siena's play evened out and by the end of the quarter it held a 19-14 lead, anchored by a buzzer-beating three-pointer by senior Joelle Gibson.

Latimer Issues Executive Order Prohibiting Gun Shows on County Property

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- On his second day as Westchester County Executive, George Latimer delivered on a promise from in his campaign, and signed an Executive Order prohibiting the sale of guns on Westchester County property.

In 1999, gun shows were banned at the Westchester County Center by former County Executive Andrew J. Spano in the wake of the mass shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado. That prohibition was later revoked by Latimer’s immediate predecessor.

Scarpino, Jr. today announced that Harry Kyreakedes (DOB 12/01/89), a former New Rochelle Police Officer, has been sentenced to 2 ½ to 7 ½ years in state prison for the 2017 drunk driving crash that resulted in the death of Isaac Ward, a passenger in his car.
