District Names Task Force Chair; Applications Accepted

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The formation of the new Task Force on Reducing Violence in the Lives of Children and Youth is under way, with longtime education expert Dr. Jonathan Brice as its chairman.

Dr. Brice, an educational leader with 25 years' experience, was selected to head the initiative last week, and the New Rochelle Board of Education has begun accepting applications from community members who wish to join the Task Force.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Mauro Zonzini raised his arms in triumph and shouted “Victory!” from the top of the stairs at the U.S. Courthouse in White Plains Friday after U.S. District Judge Nelson S. Román sentenced Zonzini to two terms, to run concurrently, of one year Supervised Release — no prison time — for his role in an extensive bribery and kickback scheme.

2 New Rochelle High School Students Arrested Following Melee Across from City Hall

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A pair of New Rochelle High School students were arrested Wednesday after police responded to a report of an “altercation involving youths” in the vicinity of 542 North Avenue, across the street from City Hall. The incident occurred at 3:32 p.m. near North Avenue and Horton Avenue.

Responding officers arrested Tyquan Carcamo, 17, of New Rochelle and a 14 year-old who was charged as a juvenile with Reckless Endangerment. Carcamo was charged with Disorderly Conduct, a violation. Police are not releasing the name of the 14 year-old.

High Tech Helps Westchester County Police Nab Car Thieves in Downtown New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- An alert officer in Westchester County Police Department's Real Time Crime Center in Hawthorne, NY helped nab car thieves in New Rochelle, NY after they stole an SUV in Mount Vernon, NY.

At about 11:18 a.m., a detective in the Real Time Crime Center broadcast an alert that a stolen Ford Explorer was being operated in downtown New Rochelle. WCPD PO Slotoroff located the vehicle and boxed it in so it couldn't drive away. Four people in the vehicle bailed out and fled.

Police Investigate Brutal Assault, Robbery of New Rochelle High School Student, 1 Arrested, 2 Sought

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Police are investigating a brutal assault and robbery of a female New Rochelle High School student by three females, including two fellow NRHS students.

The victim was lured into a car by her attackers under a false pretense. Once inside the car she was severely beaten and robbed, sources say. The victim knew at least one of her attackers. At least one of the attackers is said to have a history of dealing drugs.

The police have made one arrest and continue to seek two other people.
