Former New Rochelle School Official John C. Gallagher, Jr. Sentenced to 37 Months in Federal Prison Over Bribery and Kickback Scheme

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- U.S. Judge Kenneth M. Karas sentenced former New Rochelle School official John C. Gallagher, Jr. to 37 Months in federal prison for his role in a bribery and kickback scheme with a former masonry contractor. Mauro Zonzini, who signed a cooperation agreement with the U.S Attorney’s Office is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday.

Gallagher pled guilty on October 10, 2017, before Judge Karas.

“There have all kinds if concerns about corruption in New Rochelle,” Federal Prosecutor Benjamin Allee told the Court, “those concerns have been vindicated”.

Student Arrested at New Rochelle High School on Robbery Charge

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- An 18 year old female student was arrested Monday at New Rochelle High School regarding an incident that occurred on January 23rd at 11 p.m. on Valley Place, a small street off Fifth Avenue near Flowers Park, and Plain Avenue, an intersecting street.

Kayla Raffaele, 18, of New Rochelle, NY was charged with Robbery 2nd Degree and is being held pending a court appearance. Her arrest sheet indicates she was on bail having been released on her own recognizance.

Young Middle School parents dated January 29, 2018, Assistant Principal Tawanda Robinson warned that as all students have been taught the Tier 1 expectations over the first two marking periods that school now reserves “the right at this time of year, to implement second stage consequences or higher.”

Structure Fire in North End of New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Fire Department responded to a structure fire with flames through the roof this morning at 96 Amherst Drive near Stratton Road in New Rochelle.

Flames were shooting out through the roof towards the back of the house.

Fire Chief Lou DeMiglio said there was a lot of smoke when firefighters arrived on the scene. Two residents, a husband and wife exited the home on their home. The fire started in the attic.

There were no reported injuries.
