Monroe Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader on Opening Day at Ripken Experience

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College baseball team started its long weekend at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach on Thursday, coming away with a pair of victories against Delaware Technical Community College and Northampton Community College. The Mustangs defeated Delaware Tech, 5-0, before picking up a 4-2 win over Northampton. Monroe improves to 6-2 on the season with the wins.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- No. 2 seeded Duke used 13 made 3-pointers to its advantage in a 89-67 victory against the No. 15 seed Iona College men's basketball team during the First Round of the Midwest Region in the NCAA Championship at the PPG Paints Arena this afternoon.

The Blues Devils (27-7) shot 61.8 percent from the field in the first half that included nine made 3-point field goals to build a 53-39 halftime advantage, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Grayson Allen.

PELHAM, NY -- Pelham Art Center is delighted to present a closing reception and artist talk for Near To You, its current group show of portrait painting and sculpture. The reception will take place Saturday, March 24 from 2:00-3:30 and the artist talk will begin at 2:30 pm.

Washington, D.C.-based artist Tim Doud, and Brooklyn artists John Mitchell, Heather Morgan and Jenny Dubnau will be present to speak.  Artist Donna Festa will participate via Skype from Bangor, Maine. The artists will talk about their work and take questions from the public.

NEW YORK, NY —Jeffrey Goldstein, 48, of New Rochelle, New York was a doctor of osteopathic medicine who owned a private medical office on the Upper East Side. He resides in a house just a few dozen feet from Barnard Early Childhood Center in one direction and from the house where New RochellePolice Commissioner Patrick Carroll lived until his recent retirement.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Thirty-five New Rochelle High School students were inducted into the National Arts Honor Society in the Linda E. Kelly Theatre on Thursday. Twenty-two were being welcomed to the society for the first time. The other 13 were being inducted for their second, third or fourth years.

The theme was “Initium Novum,” or “A new beginning.”

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- More than 80 percent of New Rochelle High School students filed out onto the athletic fields to join in the 17-minute National School Walkout today, then returned to class.

Great numbers of students at Isaac E. Young and Albert Leonard middle schools took part in similar events.
