NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Jefferson Elementary School Special Chorus welcomes the New Rochelle Board of Education to its School by singing the Jefferson C.A.R.E.S. Song by teacher Gar Schwartz. 

Their performance capped the school's presentation, led by Principal Kimmerly Nieves at the start of the Board meeting.

New Rochelle Man, a Bronx School Teacher, Busted on Child Pornography Charges

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A New Rochelle man who is a special education teacher at Lewis and Clark High School in the Bronx has been arraigned on child pornography charges.

Tyler Davidson, 37, was arraigned in New Rochelle City Court, was charged with one count of Promoting an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child and one count of Possessing an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child.

New Rochelle Task Force on School Violence Members Named

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The members of the New Rochelle Task Force on Reducing Violence in the Lives of Children and Youth were announced today by Chairman Dr. Jonathan Brice.

The 46 community members, City and School District officials and others represent a wide cross section of New Rochelle, including law enforcement, educators, parents, students, business and non-profit and faith-based organizations. Many of the members are New Rochelle High School alumni. They were chosen from nearly 300 applications.

The Barnard School is Expected to Open on Time Tomorrow with a New Generator that Con Edison is Installing

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

All District schools except Barnard have full power and are ready to open on time tomorrow.

Con Edison crews are working to restore power to Barnard Early Childhood Center as recovery from Friday's storm continues. (Barnard families and staff will receive updates as work progresses this evening.)

Most street routes are cleared, but please plan for extra travel time on the way to schools and be prepared for possible bus pick-up delays.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Camp Shape will be returning to the New Rochelle community for another summer. 

The program represents a collaboration between the City School District of New Rochelle Athletic Department and Backyard Sports, a Westchester-based recreational program provider. The camp features sports specific programming in soccer, basketball, and tennis and is open to all New Rochelle young athletes in grades three through eight.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle High School junior wrestler Jake Logan ended a perfect season by winning the state title in the 182-pound class on Saturday at the Times Union Center in Albany.

"It may be cliché, but it's surreal," Logan told The Journal News. "It's awesome. It's something I've worked for as long as I can remember."

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The planned move of New Rochelle city government offices from 515 North Avenue offers a historic opportunity for the City School District of New Rochelle to gain space for operations and classes.

The School District has shared the 121,000-square-foot building for decades, with city government on the ground floor and first floor and the District on the second and third stories. With the move, expected sometime in 2021, the School District will gain an additional 86,000 square feet for instructional space, offices and other uses.
