NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Come see what the great minds in the New Rochelle High School Science Research Program have been up to when they present the 23rd annual Science Research Symposium.

It takes place 7 p.m. Thursday, May 24 in the Linda E. Kelly Theatre.

Use the high school entrance near North and Braemar avenues.

Newly Elected Board of Education Member Christopher Daniello to Sworn In

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Newly elected Board of Education member Christopher Daniello will be sworn in at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Board meeting in the District offices, 515 North Ave.

Daniello, the second-highest vote-getter among eight candidates on the ballot yesterday, according to unofficial results, will fill out the remaining two years of an unfinished term.

Julia Muggia Ochs, the top vote-getter, will join the Board in July for a full five-year term.

National Merit Scholarship Winners

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Please add your congratulations to Elijah Pomerantz (left) and Randall St. Louis. Both members of the New Rochelle High School Class of 2018 were among the 2,500 high school seniors across the nation recently named National Merit Scholarship winners. Each scholarship is $2,500.

They also happen to be the valedictorian (Pomerantz) and salutatorian (St. Louis) of the class.

In the fall, Pomerantz will attend Princeton University while St. Louis attends Harvard University.

Unofficial Results from Yesterday's Board of Education Election

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Here are the unofficial results from yesterday's Board of Education election and budget vote. They show that the $272.8 million proposed 2018-19 budget did not pass and that Julia Muggia Ochs and Christopher Daniello were elected to the school board.

Official results are expected today after the consideration of 20 affidavit ballots.

The unofficial results can also be found on the District's website, www.nred.org.

The City School District of New Rochelle has a little over a month to convince voters to support a budget or New York State will step in to administer a Contingency Budget which will entail a form of financial austerity never before experienced in the Queen City.

FBI Arrests New Rochelle High School Student in Alabama for January Stabbing Incident

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Bryan Stamps has been arrested in Gadsen, Alabama by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, ending a four-month manhunt for a high school who stabbed a classmate in January.

Stamps will be extradited to New York. He was apprehended at the home of his grandfather according to sources close to the investigation. He is being held in a juvenile detention facility in Alabama while the New Rochelle Police Department and the Westchester County District Attorney’s office work out the details of his extradition.

Talk of the Sound Obtains Advance Copy of Draft Report on School Violence in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Dr. Jonathon Brice, Chair of the Task Force on Reducing Violence in the Lives of Children and Youth. distributed today a draft of the Task Force report to all Task Force members and solicited feedback from them. Brice also distributed the draft report to the New Rochelle Board of Education, the City Manager and the Mayor in the belief that the report will likely be made public through social media. Brice expects to announce a date for a public meeting to present the recommendations of the Task Force.
