Sincere Smith Pleads Guitly to Manslaughter in Death of Trevon Boswell

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced that Sincere Smith of New Rochelle pleaded guilty Thursday (12/6) to Manslaughter in the First Degree, a class B violent felony, for the killing of Trevon Boswell in Mount Vernon in May 2017.

Smith faces up to 25 years to life in prison when he is sentenced Jan. 17, 2019.

Ozone Park Man Sentenced in Hit-and-Run Death of Tow Truck Driver on i-95

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced that Anthony Mangano of Ozone Park, NY was sentenced in the hit-and-run death of a tow truck operator on I-95 in New Rochelle in December 2016. Westchester County Court Judge Barry Warhit sentenced Mangano today to the 12 months already served in the Westchester County Jail.

Shooting in Downtown New Rochelle; Stray Bullet Smashes Window in City Councilman Apartment Building

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- There was a shooting in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The incident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. outside Chuggers bar located at 234 North Avenue.

Three shots were fired during what New Rochelle Police described as a "large altercation" in front of Chugger’s. No arrests have been made.

Two New Rochelle High School Students Plead Guilty to Stalking Schoolmate Before Her Death

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Dominique Slack, 18, and Carl Booker, 18, both pleaded guilty to Stalking in the First Degree, a class D violent felony, for their roles in an incident resulting in the stabbing death of 16-year-old New Rochelle High School student Valaree Schwab. 

Westchester County Court Judge Barry Warhit accepted the plea. Sentencing for Slack and Booker is scheduled for Jan. 25, 2019, and Feb. 22, 2019, respectively.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Five bids were submitted to the New Rochelle Board of Education earlier today in response to a long-awaited Request for Proposal for Legal Services.  Jeff Kehl, formerly of Kehl, Katzive & Simon which later merged with Bond, Schoeneck & King, the District’s current law firm, has been the District’s lawyer for 41 years without competitive bidding.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Board Vice President Amy Moselhi said manipulation of high school graduation data was OK by her when presented outside of New Rochelle but drew the line when misleading data was presented to the school board. Moselhi's unusual remarks came as part of a public dressing down of Interim New Rochelle High School Principal Joseph Starvaggi at a recent board meeting.

Robert Cox Responds to NewROAR on Shadia Alvarez and Racism

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A group of two dozen or so people turned up for a recent meeting of the New Rochelle Board of Education both to defend disgraced school administrator Shadia Alvarez and to condemn this reporter for what one described as a pattern of attacking school administrators of color.

Speaking to members of this group after the meeting, I learned they had met the night before to coordinate their remarks to the school board.
