NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Ingerman Smith has been selected through an RFP process to be the outside counsel for the New Rochelle Board of Education and City School District of New Rochelle.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by Board President Jeffrey Hastie.

“After reviewing the qualifications of several law firms, we have decided that Ingerman Smith has the experience and the expertise best suited to meeting the highly specialized needs of our District,” said Board President Jeffrey Hastie. “We look forward to working with them.”

New Rochelle Council Member Will Not Seek Re-Election

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Barry Fertel announced today that he will not seek a fourth term on the New Rochelle City Council.

“After much consideration and thought, I have decided not to seek re-election to the City Council,” said Fertel in a public statement released late this afternoon.

“I have served on the New Rochelle City Council representing District 5 for almost fourteen years and have thoroughly enjoyed every second of it,” said Fertel. “I am proud of my accomplishments and firmly believe that New Rochelle is a better place than it was when I first started.”

New York State Announces February SNAP Benefits Being Issued Early Due to Federal Government Shutdown

NEW YORK, NY -- The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance today announced that most recipients of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will receive their full February benefits early, due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. Current SNAP recipients may receive their February benefits by Thursday, January 17.

Most recipients will receive their entire February benefit early, so it is important for SNAP recipients to budget accordingly considering the uncertainty caused by the federal shutdown.

Students Log 2 Million Minutes in Ward Read-A-Thon

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- When the month-long read-a-thon at William B. Ward Elementary School had finished, the students had logged a whopping 2 million minutes devouring novels, picture books and non-fiction.

"Each of you read your hearts out," gushed kindergarten teacher Geri-Ann Lezi at a wrap-up celebration in the auditorium, where thumping music and volunteer parents waving shiny blue pom-poms filled the auditorium. "As a whole, Ward School read all those minutes - two million minutes! Great job!"
