Talk of the Sound recently hit a major milestone in becoming the first hyper-local site in New Rochelle to reach 1,000,000 unique visitors. Don't expect any cheering from over in City Hall. After years of hoping we would just go away, the powers that be in New Rochelle have grudgingly come to realize we are not going away.
Mahatma Gandhi is often cited, incorrectly, as having said:
First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win.
Readers can decide where we have gotten to along this continuum but the time has long since passed that Talk of the Sound is ignored.Read more

The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo
Governor of New York State
NYS State Capitol Building
Albany, NY 12224
Honorable Governor Cuomo,
I contact you as 56-year old New Rochellian who had to move from my city of birth due to high taxes. I am now faced with the task of maintaining our New Rochelle family home in hopes of keeping my 80-year-old mother-in-law, who suffers from dementia, in familiar surroundings until her time comes.Read more
A Public Hearing is scheduled for December 6th at 7:30 pm at City Hall, please come out to support public safety and voice your concern.
Consider that New Rochelle Fire Company Ladder 12 is closed today. Since the release of the preliminary budget it has been out of service more than it has been in service. The preliminary budget calls for a reduction of 5 less (almost 20%) fire fighters working per shift since 2009 and to permanently close Ladder 12 for 2012. Ladder 12 is a crucial part of the Fire Departments ability to provide “time of the essence” life-saving service; its primary function includes search and rescue. A normal response to a call requires that 2 engines and 2 trucks respond. If the response happens to be in the North End of New Rochelle and another call comes in on Pelham Road, there will not be another ladder to respond. Even if the call turns out to be a false alarm, the travel time to respond to the other end of the city can be upwards of 21 minutes (as per map quest); the distance between the 2 ends of New Rochelle is more than 8 miles apart.Read more
City Management Guts the Fire Department and Decides to Gamble With Your Safety all to Save Less Than 3 Cents Per Day Per Resident
As we celebrate our 150th The City of New Rochelle slashed its first responder protection on Thursday cutting its minimum on duty firefighting contingent to 24 firefighters, 5 less than 2 years ago. Additionally, one of the department’s three ladder companies (LADDER 12), which conduct search, rescue and recovery operations, is no longer in service.
The city is gambling with the lives of its citizens to save less than 3 cents a day per resident. Will fire victims stuck on the upper floors of a building be able to hold their breath or survive the extra minutes it will take to rescue them, “if we ever get to them?”
New Rochelle’s proposed 2012 city budget calls for the Fire Department to eliminate another 9 firefighter positions on top of the already 16 reduced in the 2 previous years. This action will permanently close Ladder 12. The $770,000 budget saving would amount to less than 3 cents per resident per day or ½ of 1 per cent of the city’s total budget.Read more
It's time to signal the beginning of the end of the Bramson, Inc. brand of dirty machine politics in New Rochelle.
As the current election cycle draws to a close on Tuesday, New Rochelle's registered voters will have learned a great deal about the real Noam Bramson. They have seen the facade of rectitude fall to reveal the face of a warped, frustrated man -- a person not content to defeat an opponent but to drag his opponent and their children into the gutter, then hide behind the anonymity of hacks in the media, callers to radio shows and unseemly campaign mailers designed to hide the reality that they had been approved and paid for by Noam Bramson, Inc.
By all accounts, the Mayor is going to be re-elected. The fact is his opponent has run a pitiful race.
Given this perception, many folks may figure “What's the use of bothering to vote?”
Let me suggest why you need to show up to vote.Read more
QUESTION:WHY DOES MAYOR BRAMSON WANT ONLY DEMOCRATS ON CITY COUNCIL?
ANSWER: SO HE CAN CIRCUMVENT GOVERNOR CUOMO'S NEW TAX CAP AND RAISE YOUR PROPERTY TAXES BEYOND THE 2% CAP!
The Bramson Campaign is actively campaigning to stack the City Council with only Democrats.
Many voters have been contacted by the Bramson Campaign to blindly vote along Party lines this year without thought.
What the Bramson Campaign is NOT TELLING YOU is that Bramson needs you to elect a supermajority of Democrats to City Council so that they can override Governor Cuomo’s Property Tax Cap, which is protecting you, the property owner, from onerous property tax increases.
On June 30, 2011, Governor Cuomo signed into law legislation that caps your property taxes at a 2% increase. This tax cap can be overridden by a super-majority vote of council. If the Mayor is successful, he and his disciples will override the property tax-cap in New Rochelle and raise your taxes to support his political agenda.Read more
