NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- City Manager Charles B. Strome III announced the appointment of Andrew Sandor to Chief of the New Rochelle Fire Department. Sandor assumed the position on September 1. Sandor served as Interim Fire Chief since Lou DiMeglio who retired on June 29, 2018 after 45 years of distinguished service.

Chief Sandor is a 22-year veteran of the New Rochelle Fire Department, having risen through the ranks from his appointment as a probationary firefighter in 1996. In 2002 he was promoted to Fire Lieutenant and then to Fire Captain in 2008. During his time as a company officer, Chief Sandor served in all 5 fire stations in New Rochelle.

Chief Sandor has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Iona College, as well as an associate’s degree in Fire Science from Corning Community College. He also served for several years as a New York State and Westchester County Fire Instructor.

“I look forward to working closely with Andy Sandor as our new Fire Chief. I am confident he will continue and enhance the reputation of the New Rochelle Fire Department as being the finest in the State of New York,” said City Manager Charles B. Strome, III.

Chief Sandor will be ceremonially sworn in during the Department’s annual ceremony in October.
