WHITE PLAINS, NY — Riding a national wave of anti-Trump sentiment, Westchester County Democrats crushed Republicans throughout the County.

Voters tossed out incumbent County Executive Rob Astorino, who was thumped by State Senator George Latimer by a margin of 14 points, 57-43.

Westchester residents have given Latimer four years to make good on his promise to put the County’s financial house in order despite his documented inability to manage affairs in his own home. It should make for an interesting four years.

“What happened in Westchester is clearly a wave, and it was reflected in municipal races as well as in the county races," said Latimer to a boisterous crowd of supporters at the Coliseum in downtown White Plains.

Astorino addressed a crowd of supporters at the Crown Plaza who had been downcast from the moment the polls closed at 9 p.m.

"It has been my honor to serve as County Executive,” said Astorino who told the crowd he had been friends with George before the race and expected to be friends after the race. Astorino pledged 100% support for Latimer during the transition.

In the other major countywide  race, Westchester County Clerk Tim Idoni cruised to victory over Jim Chisholm, his Republican challenger, by 64-36.

The Democrats appear to have picked up three seats in the Westchester County Board of Legislators which will give them a legislative supermajority to go with their control of the executive.

Democratic challenger Damon Maher defeated incumbent Sheila Marcotte, 53-47, for Westchester County Legislator District 10. Incumbent Catherine Parker defeated Republican challenger Norman Rosenblum 66-34 for Westchester County Legislator District 7. Republican Jim Maisano ran unopposed in Westchester County Legislator District 11.
