NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Mike Umbro, 55, was sentenced yesterday by Judge Anthony Carbone in New Rochelle City Court to 3 year’s probation and a $200 fine. Umbro pleaded guilty on October 3, 2018 to a reduced charge of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, a Class A misdemeanor.

Umbro was a senior facilities management supervisor at the Albert Leonard Middle School before he resigned last summer in the wake of his arrest on June 21st on charges of Criminal Possession of Narcotic Drug with Intent to Sell in the Third Degree, a Class B Felony and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.

New Rochelle police found packets of heroin shoved down Umbro’s pants following a traffic stop on Fifth Avenue near City Park, according to court records. At his arraignment on June 22nd in New Rochelle City Court the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office dropped the misdemeanor charge.

Umbro, a longtime employee of the New Rochelle Board of Education, worked most recently as Plant Operations Supervisor at Albert Leonard Middle School.  For the 2017 pay year, records from seethroughny.net show Umbro was paid $126,036.

Police say Umbro was questioned during a traffic stop. The arresting officer described Umbro as “trembling” and “very nervous”.

Upon searching Umbro, the officer retrieved 1 plastic bag containing 50 waxine envelopes of heroin hidden below Umbro’s front waist band.

The vehicle, a 2014 White Honda Accord, was searched for contraband. Finding none, the vehicle was impounded at Safeway Towing.
