Harry Patz Sr. Obituary

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Harry Patz, a resident of New Rochelle, NY, formerly of Yonkers, NY, on Friday, July 15th, 2016.

Harry was born on October 1, 1921 in Yonkers to Dimitri and Anna Welgos Patz and was raised and educated in Yonkers, graduating from Yonkers High School in 1939. 

He joined the U.S. Army on July 31st, 1942 and served 38 months, including 31 months in the southwest Pacific Theatre of Operations, mostly with the 91st Chemical Mortar Company, involved in the invasions of Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands and Leyte in the Philippine Islands. He also spent service time in Luzon Island.

He was a retired Production Control Supervisor with Otis Elevator Company, after 28 years of service.

Harry was formerly active in bowling and golf circles in Yonkers, and one of the charter organizers of the Yonkers Amateur Golf Association (YAGA), associated with Dunwoodie Golf Club. He was President for 3 terms, while being club champion twice and a member of the board of governors for many years. He also served several years as President of the Otis Elevator Retirees Club.

An enthusiastic fan of the NY Jets and NY Mets, he attended many games with his son Harry Jr. Later in life he liked to read, work crossword puzzles, take occasional trips to Atlantic City, and spend time with his grandchildren.

He married Theresa D. Parisi of New Rochelle on September 9th, 1962 in Yonkers and enjoyed their honeymoon at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulfur Springs, West Virginia. She died on May 30th, 2007.

He is survived by 3 children, Judith Ann Croughan, Happy (Alice) Mullooly (Tom), both of Rye, NY, and Harry Patz, Jr. (Ann Marie Lynch) of Mt. Vernon, NY.

He was also the loving grandfather of Colin, Will and Mark Croughan, Caroline, Ava and Jack Mullooly, and Alexandra and Sophia Patz.

He is also survived by his nephew David Patz (Lisa) of Ithaca, NY, and niece Tammy Bambara (Mark) of Endwell, NY. 

He was also predeceased by his parents, his sisters Elizabeth Drozdowski and Louise Kochan, and his brothers William, Peter and Robert Patz, and his nephew Brian Drozdowski. 

He was also predeceased by brothers-in-law Bill Drozdowski and Andrew Kochan, and sisters-in-law Mae Patz and Annie Patz, and son-in-law George Croughan.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday July 19th from 3pm to 7pm at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home at 168 Park Avenue in Yonkers, NY. Funeral mass will be on Wednesday July 20th, at 10:00am. at St. Mary’s Carpatho Russian Orthodox Church, 485 North Broadway in Yonkers, NY.

Burial will be at Greenwood Union Cemetery on North Street in Rye, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary’s Orthodox Church. 

A special thank you to the nurses, aides and therapists at King Street Rehab in Port Chester, N.Y. who looked over Harry so kindly during his recent stays.
