NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College golf team moved up two spots on the final day of the Rhode Island Invitational, placing 11th among 14 competing schools. The Gaels shot 304 (+16) in round three, led by sophomore Devin Delisle’s 75 (+3). They finished the three-round tournament with a scorecard of 929 (+65).
The host Rhode Island won the event at 876 (+12), and Bryant University student-athlete Ryan Tombs took the individual crown with a three-round total of 215 (-1).
Delisle finished tied for 20th at 225 (+9). Sophomore Paolo Matti shot a third round 76 (+4) to climb to T48th on the individual leaderboard. Senior Brian Fitzpatrick finished T61st with an 82 (+10) in the third round. Rookies Oisin Devereux and Matt Mirocco bounced back from two 80+ rounds with a 75 (+3) and 78 (+5), respectively, in their final go-arounds.
Matti tied for third among all competitors shooting even on the par three holes. Delisle shot -5 on the par five holes, due in large part to recording one of nine eagles over the two-day event. Mirocco ranked among the leaders with 32 pars over three rounds.
