New Rochelle School District Selects Two New Principals, Barnard and New Rochelle High School

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The City School District of New Rochelle is happy to report the selection of candidates to fill the position of principal at the district’s New Rochelle High School and Barnard Early Childhood Center, representing both the oldest and youngest students who are educated in the City School District of New Rochelle.

Reginald Richardson, currently the principal of Performing Arts and Technology High School in Brooklyn, NY will become the high school’s new leader on July 1st following the retirement of current principal, Donald Conetta (principal since 2005) at the end of this school year. Mr. Richardson has been principal at Performing Arts and Technology since 2010. Prior to that, he was an aspiring principal at the NYC Leadership Academy assigned to Sunset Park High School, also in Brooklyn and assistant principal at Manhattan Theatre Lab High School in New York. Mr. Richardson also served a stint in Savannah, GA as a program coordinator at Savannah Arts Academy High School and was also a social studies teacher and assistant principal at the Wadleigh Secondary School for the Performing and Visual Arts in New York.

Mr. Richardson received his B.A. degree in Political Science from Hunter College, his J.D. from Howard University School of Law and his Ed.M. from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. He is also an M.S.Ed. candidate at Baruch College and is expected to complete the program in January 2014.

Joanna Genovese will be another new leader in the district when she assumes the position of principal at the Barnard Early Childhood Center (PreK-2) on July 1st. She is replacing Patricia Lambert who is retiring after serving as principal at Barnard since 2002. Ms. Genovese most recently served as principal of Hurlbutt Elementary School in Weston, CT from 2005-2012. She also served as assistant principal at Hurlbutt after her previous experience as mathematics and instructional leader and then assistant principal at Driscoll School in Wilton, CT. Ms. Genovese is also currently an adjunct professor at the University of St. Joseph in West Hartford, CT.

Ms. Genovese received her B.A. in Philosophy from Southern Connecticut State University and her M.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Bridgeport.

Both Mr. Richardson and Ms. Genovese were officially appointed by the New Rochelle Board of Education on June 4th.
