NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Board of Education filled two key administrative positions on Tuesday. Daniel Gonzalez, who served as the assistant principal at Isaac E. Young Middle School, was named the House I principal at New Rochelle High School, and Beatrice Lopez, a former assistant principal in the Bronx, was named the new middle school English department chairperson.

Gonzalez joined the New Rochelle school district in 2004 as a teacher and facilitator at the Jefferson Elementary School. He later moved to IEYMS as administrative dean and became assistant principal in 2016. In taking one of the four house principal positions at NRHS, Gonzalez replaces Gustavo Barbosa, who was named the secondary school social studies chairperson in June.

Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne said Gonzalez’s “track record is excellent. His administrative skills, his diligence and his deep dedication to all of our kids is going to make him a tremendous asset to New Rochelle High School.”

Lopez replaces Laurie Marinaro as the middle school English department chairperson. Before coming to New Rochelle, Lopez served two years as assistant principal for the Rafael Hernandez Dual Language Magnet School in the Bronx. She previously taught at several schools in New York City and Florida. In the late 1990s until 2003, she was an adjunct instructor and co-director of the Hunter College Welfare Rights Initiative.

“She demonstrates the kind of keen insight that only comes when someone has truly dedicated themselves to studying every aspect of teaching and learning,” Osborne said. “I am confident that her leadership will not only support very effectively our middle school English language arts teachers but will also add to our district administrative team and make a positive impact on the entire district.”
