Skidmore Stifles Womens Volleyball

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The College of New Rochelle Womens Volleyball team suffered its third straight setback at the hands of Skidmore College in the final match of the Union Quds, held at Union College on Saturday.  The non-conference loss drops CNR to 13-7 on the season.

Skidmore nearly doubled the Blue Angels in offense, recording 62 kills compared to CNR’s 32.  The result a 3-1 victory by set scores of 10-25, 15-25, 25-20, 18-25.

Down 2-0, CNR jumped out to a 9-5 on a kill by sophomore Rosa Angeles (Yonkers, NY). Skidmore was able to tie the game at 11-11 before Angeles served off three straight points, including an ace to take a 14-11 lead. Skidmore chipped away at the lead to tie at 17-17 and briefly take an 18-17 lead over CNR on an ace. The Blue Angels mustered up another small rally on the serve of junior Tiany Perez Diaz (Juncos, PR) to pull out in front 21-18. But, Skidmore again wouldn’t go away easy as they made it a one-point deficit at 23-22 on a Kallie Fox kill for the Thoroughbreds. Sophomore Caitline Harrison (Bronx, NY) answered with one of her six kills on the night to push CNR to game point, where sophomore Fabiola Padilla Rios (San Juan, PR) finished the game with one of her team-high 11 kills.

CNR was again limited to just seven service aces, well below their average, on the match.  But, defensively was solid almost hitting the century mark with 99 team digs. Padilla Rios racked up 23 digs, to go with 20 for Perez Diaz, and 19 by junior Indigo Flowers (San Francisco, CA).  Junior Melanie Ann Loez Soto (Gurabo, PR) added 17 digs to go with 15 assists. Freshmen Stephanie Garcia (Chino, CA) added 9 digs and an ace.

CNR will host Lehman College on Thursday night at 7pm at the Wellness Center.
