NEW ROCHELLE, NY — After spotting visiting Western Connecticut University a 17-3 headstart, the College of New Rochelle Womens Basketball team made a valiant effort to pull out the victory in the non-conference matchup Wednesday night.  Despite tying the game at 30-30 just seconds out of the half time break, CNR would never take the lead.  The Blue Angels kept the Colonials in sight down the stretch, but eventually fell 63-52.

Senior Jasmine Brandon (Jersey City, NJ) was tops in the scoring column as she drained 26 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Freshmen Amirror Dixon (New Rochelle, NY) was the only other player in double-digits with 11 points.  For the Colonials, Emily Dobson poured in 20 points, to go along with 16 and 12 point showing by teammates Kaitlyn LaBonte and Jancy Sherwood.

After a first period that saw CNR down 22-12, the Blue Angels slowly dissolved the Colonial lead. Brandon hit back to back buckets in the final minute to send the teams into the locker rooms with Western Conn, up 30-28.

After Brandon tied it seconds into the 3rd frame, the Colonials went on a key 7-0 run to put them back out in front and eventually pushed the lead to 12 with under 2:00 to play.  With seconds to go sophomore Caitlin Harrison (Bronx, NY) narrowed the lead to seven points, but with just 6 seconds to go Western Conn’s LaBonte hit a three to make it 47-37.

The teams played even throughout the 4th with CNR getting as close as six points on another Harrison jumper in the paint with 2:08 to play.  But, the Colonials scored the final five points of the game to set the final.

CNR committed 21 turnovers to Western Conn’s 16.  The Colonials led on the boards 31-27 but CNR outshot the visitors 41% to 39%.

CNR will return to action on Tuesday when they host York College (NY) at the Wellness Center at 7pm.
