NEW ROCHELLE, NY — William T. Stone, a resident of New Rochelle, NY passed away on September 15th. He was born on January 17, 1921 in Checotah(Jenks), Oklahoma to Oram Reid and Christine Martin. 

He was a graduate of New Rochelle H.S. and was a legendary athlete, inducted into the New Rochelle Hall of Fame (football, basketball and track). 

He served in the US Navy from 1942-1945 as a signalman, who on June 6, 1944 (D-Day) guided landing crafts onto Omaha Beach (Dog Red). He was decorated for his actions, most notably, as rescuer of survivors from the torpedoed Leopoldville. He was a lieutenant with the New Rochelle Fire Department for 20 years (Exchange Club Award, 1968), master carpenter and traveled around the world with his family. 

He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He is predeceased by his wife, Norma Creaturo, of 65 years. He is survived by his son, William T. Stone, his wife Lori, granddaughter Natasha, daughter Mary E Brenner, granddaughter Lauren Ashley, grandson James (wife, Jayme), daughter Christine Ann Pelham, grandsons Jay (Andrea, great-grandson James) and Ryan and son-in-law James Pelham. 

He is survived by his brother James Stone (wife, Josephine)and niece Karen. Predeceased by brothers Oram, Robert, and John. 

Mass of Christian burial Monday September 19, 2016 9:30 am Holy Name of Jesus Church, New Rochelle, NY. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.
