WESTCHESTER, NY — The 39th annual Playland Day for People with Disabilities will take place at Playland tomorrow, July 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Nearly 7,000 people have registered for the event. For the second year, Westchester County’s Office for the Disabled and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation will partner with the Tommie Cares Foundation, which has generously agreed to sponsor the cost of the event.

Playland Day for People with Disabilities is open to all Westchester County residents with a disability and members of their immediate families. Parents, friends, and volunteers are all welcome to join in the day of free rides, entertainment and activities.

“Playland Day gives people with disabilities an opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy a day of fun and excitement with their families as well as thousands of others who share their same experiences,” said County Executive Robert P. Astorino.

In addition to enjoying the rides at Playland, The Tommie Cares Foundation will once again organize adventure water sports activities at Rye Beach, where specially trained lifeguards and athletes will take a limited number of children with special needs kayaking, stand up paddling, outrigger canoeing, and more.

The adventure water sports will begin at 8 a.m. at Rye Beach. Children who wish to take part should register in advance online at www.tommiecares.org.

“We are so happy to support Westchester County and the Office for the Disabled in the annual Playland Day event,” said Tom Kallish, founder of Tommie Cares. “And we look forward to a long lasting partnership with our good friends.” Astorino added, “I want to thank Tom Kallish and the whole Tommie Cares team for their partnership and continued support of this great event, and all our other sponsors and volunteers.”

Verizon, also a sponsor, will provide volunteers to help with traffic control, ride assistance and registration. Pepsi has donated gifts and prizes for the volunteers.
There is no rain date scheduled.
